Periodontal services are provided by our Calgary SE general dentists. We offer preventative services, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, which affects the gums and jawbone.
Periodontal disease is an infection of the tissues that support the teeth, including the gums, gingiva, alveolar bone, cementum, and periodontal ligament. Good oral hygiene practices and preventative therapy are essential in keeping your gums healthy.

Gingivitis is the first stage of periodontal disease. Plaque and its toxin by-products irritate the gums, making them tender, inflamed, and likely to bleed.
Plaque hardens into tartar, and the gums can begin to recede from the teeth. Pockets form between the gums and teeth and become filled with bacteria and pus. The gums become inflamed and bleed easily. Slight to moderate bone loss may be present.
The teeth lose more support as the gums, bone, and periodontal ligament continue to deteriorate. Without treatment, the affected teeth may become loose or even lost. Generalized moderate to severe bone loss may be present.
